Soaring Costs of Book Printing In China May Affect American Consumers

Book PrintingSoaring costs of book printing in China may affect American consumers soon. Recently, increased demand for books and a crackdown on smaller, polluting paper mills have caused a paper shortage in China. This has led to an increase in the price of paper by ten percent in China so far this year, causing printing companies to delay books and publishers to increase prices.

This has mostly been confined to China so far; however experts are saying that if this trend continues, consumers everywhere could find themselves facing much higher book prices. China is a big player in the international book market and is the United States' largest supplier of print products, mainly books.

How Lenticular Printing Works To Create Amazing Images

Lenticular PrintingOnce considered a novelty, lenticular printing has evolved into a medium that now offers a variety of handy applications for digital and offset printers.

Lenticular printing uses graphics exclusively designed for viewing through what is called a "lens sheet," which allows the viewer to see different images, depending on the angle they are viewing the image from. The image itself is a combination of several, often referred to as "interlaced," viewpoints of the art work.

The lens sheet material is a unique plastic comprised of individual "lenticules," which essentially act as a magnifying glass to enlarge and display the portion of the image below. The lenticules are exactly aligned with the image underneath it in order for the special effects to work.

By doing this, the lenticular image can appear to show motion and three dimensional effects because each eye is viewing the lenticular print from its own angle. This makes it possible to produce amazing images with animation and other eye catching effects, by just rotating the image or changing the angle it is viewed from.

New TV-based Digital Photo Printing Technology for Your Home

Digital Photo PrintingRecently, Epson and Philips announced they are launching new TV-based digital photo printing technology for the home. This new technology combines a compact photo printer, a remote control and a TV screen.

The twist here is in combining the TV viewing capability with the printing one. When you see a picture you like you simply press the Print button on the remote to create a hard copy of it.

The Phillips PhotoViewer is a small box that directly attaches to your television via standard AV connections, which come with the box. Just put a memory card into it and your photos are shown on your TV in standard or high-definition (depending on your TVs capabilities). A remote control is then used to cycle through photos individually or to start or pause a slide show, and you can zoom in or rotate images onscreen.

The Philips PhotoViewer is designed for use with the Epson PictureMate PM240 printer and used to invoke photo printing via a TV remote control. A USB connection attaches the PhotoViewer to the home photo printer.

As well as standard memory card types found in digital cameras and mobile phones, the PhotoViewer is able to read and display images from a USB flash memory drive or other hard drives. Also, it can play MP3 music tracks from attached memory devices too, so you can add a soundtrack providing a bit of atmosphere to your holiday slideshow.
